BAUCHI SUBEB CHAIR ADMITS FAULT,assured it will be put right
Chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji ZulAbubakar Bauchi, has warned engineers against using substandard materials in the execution of SUBED projects in the state.
He issued the warning while speaking to journalists shortly after he he met with some Bauchi State House of Assembly education committee members in Bauchi.
Our Parliamentary Correspondent reports that the House of Assembly had summoned the SUBEB’s Chair to explain alleged claims of substandard projects and shoddy execution of some contracts awarded by the Board.
The warning is coming on the heels of protests by some aggrieved contractors over non-payment of their contract money,
He was particularly summoned by the legislators to explain what led to the the substandard projects being executed in some schools across the state. The contracts are being executed by different contractors,but based on a uniformed quality standard across the state.
The Bauchi state House of Assembly also urged the board not to pay contractors for poor quality projects until improvements have been effected and corrections made on defects on the structures have been appropriately carried out according to specifications as contained in the contract agreement.
Answering questions,the Chairman admitted”there were irregularities in some of projects executed in some schools across the state”.
“We discovered that those projects were not properly supervised by our engineers who have the responsibility to ensure the projects were executed to contract specifications”.
“We submitted that our engineers have not done their job diligently as expected of them”.
“Therefore, we have directing our engineers to live up to expectation or face the consequences of their lapse. The engineers must go back to the project sites for monitoring and proper supervision”.
“I want to assure you that the board will not hesitate to punish any engineer found wanting or jeopardizing the schools’ projects in the state by dropping our standard”K
He further assured the law makers that all irregularities would be effected with adequate supervision,einspection and proper evaluation as expected the government and people of Bauchi state.
The Chairman of the House committee on Education,Hon.Mohammed Babayo, had insisted that all companies and contractors that executed substandard projects in the State should be blacklisted.
And charged the board to investigate the alleged negligence by the engineers and punish whoever is found wanting, to serve as a deterrent to other engineers who are civil servants and eyes of Bauchi people.
He assured his committee would be monitoring and evaluating the projects as part of its oversight functions to checkmate contractors who want to short change Bauchi people.

The seized motorcycles by Bauchi state Task Force on Covid19 are to be auctioned to their owners.
The state government had banned the use of commercial motorcycles popularly known as Achaba (Okada) 4 months ago,as one of the preventive steps for the spread of Corona Virus Disease(Pandemic) in the state.
The state commissioner for Information Hon.Dahiru disclosed this at a Government House press conference late Friday evening.
He said”the motorcycles will be auctioned to the owners after a validly prove of ownership
