National Assembly on the Passage of Computer Forensic Institute’s Bill

An intellectual debate followed various interest groups arguing over the passage of the Chartered Institute of Computer Forensics of Nigeria and for other related Matters Bill into law on Tuesday public hearing.
In the public hearing, the stakeholders on the bill organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation expressed their support for the passage of this law and others who opposed on the ground of existing similar body like Nigeria immigration service. Not withstanding other few representatives from CBN, EFCC, NDIC, Police, Armed Forces, NSCDC are okay by the bill. On his part the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu through his representative at the public hearing, said the Computer Forensics Institute of Nigeria (CIFIN) was incorporated in 2008.
The Deputy Director, Information, Communication and Technology, Mr. Adebayo Adeyemi on his behalf said, the bill should be given a speedy passage in the interest of the country.
Onu emphasized the bill will enhance national security through improved and speedy investigation and improve criminal justice in Nigeria.
He further pointed other benefits as: “Local capacity enhancements in the practice of digital, mobile and computer forensics through skills acquisition and strict regulation. New employment and career enhancement opportunities in the area of digital, mobile and computer forensics to combat unemployment as well as social vices.
