Parallel Market has conspicuously and with all manner of impunity exchanging N10,000 new currency to N15,000 old currency in Imo State.

One of the agents who gave his name as Mohammed told journalists at Ama-Housa, Douglas Road, Owerri Imo State that they got the bulk of the new currency from the Commercial Banks in Imo State.

He therefore added that they are selling the new currency according to the instruction given to them by the Bank managers of those banks in Imo State.

Mohammed however revealed that some commercial banks in the state were directly linked to the Parallel Market in the state and as well they received the new currency from the commercial banks in the State.

“Since I started this business in 2015 here at Ama-Housa I have been selling new naira currency from the commercial bank in the state and after the transaction they gave me commission”

A Bank Official who pleaded anonymity said that many Commercial Banks in Imo State have not received the new currency enough from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

He said that investigation revealed that Parallel Market operating at Ama-Housa Owerri,Imo State got bulk of the new currency particularly N1000 denomination from banks or other Financial Institution outside the state mainly through their agents.

“Please ask Mohammed where the got millions of American Dollar, British Pounds, Euros,and even Japanese Yen amongst others being sold at Ama-Housa Douglas Road Owerri, are they from the Commercial banks operating in lmo State?
