Delta State Flags Off Solar Electrification Project

It was another milestone breakthrough for the Okowa administration, as Delta State, through the Min. Of energy flagged off the 5 million solar connection initiative .

The project, which is a Federal Govt. initiative to light up the unserved and underserved communities was attended by various stakeholders in the power and energy industry.

Delivering his keynote address, the Hon. Commissioner, Delta State Min. Of Energy, Chief Fred Obe, thanked everybody for coming and said the project is in line with the SMART Agenda and will ameliorate the electricity challenges faced by the people.

Speaking further, the commissioner said it is subsidised by the State govt to make it affordable adding that it will also complement the effort of the State government in the provision of electricity to Deltans. He therefore gave kudos to the governor who bought into the idea and made it a reality.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Min. Of Energy, Engr. Blessing Edewor, appreciated the people for coming and recalled how he was granted an interview sometime last year by the State Broadcasting Corporation on how to have a stable electricity supply in the State. stating that his Ministry has actualised the promise they made through solar power. He also commended the Commissioner for taking a bold step in the actualisation process.

Meanwhile, the General Manager of Beebeejump Solar, who are the consultants, Mrs, Timmy Xin, has thanked Deltans and the commissioner for the opportunity given her company. She said she conceived the idea eight years ago when she visited Nigeria and discovered there was no electricity . She also said that solar is the cheapest and best way of having electricity when compared to fuel and diesel powered generators saying that her company has an installation and after sales team to help out in terms of maintenance.

At the end of the programme, their was a demonstration by a staff of Beebeejump technology on how to use the solar products after which they went for the flag off ceremony which was observed by the commissioners of other ministry and other stakeholders.

The objective of the project is to light up communities that are not served as well as those that are underserved in the State, and the theme of the event is , Light More, Pay Less
