Chief Of Naval Staff Restates Importance Of Sustained Collaboration In Securing Nation’s Maritime Domain
The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has reaffirmed that
sustained collaboration with relevant stakeholders remains pivotal to securing
Nigeria’s maritime environment.
A statement signed by Navy Captain AA Folorunsho, Director Naval Information, explained that the Naval Chief made this assertion while receiving the
Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of New Guard Security &
Consultancy Services Limited (NGSCL), Major General Jamil Sarham (Rtd),
during a courtesy visit to Naval Headquarters, Abuja.
He informed that during the engagement, the NGSCL CEO highlighted the company’s mandate
as a coordinating interface between government security agencies and Private
Security Companies (PSCs), aimed at standardising operations, enhancing
regulatory compliance, and fostering synergy across the security architecture.
He further disclosed that the company has established a Project Management
Office and commenced full operations, noting that ongoing engagements have
significantly reduced operational frictions between PSCs and the Armed Forces
of Nigeria.
He commended the Nigerian Navy’s professionalism and sustained
operations against crude oil theft, which have contributed to improved oil
production and strengthened national economic stability.
In his remarks, the Chief of Naval Staff, welcomed the initiative and underscored the
importance of institutionalised collaboration in addressing evolving maritime
security challenges.
He noted that previous areas of friction with PSCs have
been considerably minimised and assured NGSCL of the Nigerian Navy’s
continued support in advancing coordinated mechanisms to safeguard critical
national assets and sustain maritime security.
