Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has been honoured with the prestigious Governor of the Year 2025 Award by Leadership Newspapers. The award was presented in recognition of his impactful leadership style, people oriented policies, and steady infrastructural development across Delta State.

The colourful ceremony took place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre on February 12, 2026, in Abuja. Although the Governor was unavoidably absent, he was ably represented by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, who received the award on his behalf.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the presentation, the Deputy Governor expressed deep appreciation to the people of Delta State for their continued support for the administration. He stated that the government remains committed to fulfilling its promises and delivering more democratic dividends to Deltans. According to him, the achievements of the administration are visible for all to see, especially in the areas of road construction, bridge projects, healthcare interventions, and educational development. He proudly noted that Delta remains the only state in the country with four universities, a milestone that reflects the administration’s commitment to academic growth.

The Leadership Newspaper annual award event is one of the most respected gatherings in the country. It brings together political leaders, policymakers, captains of industry, and development partners to discuss important national and continental matters. The event also serves as a platform to recognise individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to national development.

In its citation, Leadership Newspaper acknowledged that Governor Oborevwori’s administration has stood out through inclusive governance, strategic infrastructural expansion, and policies carefully designed to improve the socio economic wellbeing of the people. The award further strengthens his rising national reputation and confirms the growing recognition of the developmental progress recorded in Delta State under his leadership.

The ceremony was graced by several distinguished personalities including the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, and the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, among many other notable guests.

This recognition marks another significant milestone for the Oborevwori administration and serves as encouragement to continue delivering purposeful leadership and sustainable development for the people of Delta State.
