Appeal Court President Decries Rising Insecurity, Condoles Late Dr. Sankey’s Family

The President of Court of Appeal, Monica Menzem has decried rising insecurity bedeviling the nation and charged all and sundry to continue praying for God’s intervention to end the situation.

The Appellate Court President made this assertion in Jos, Plateau state capital, Wednesday, when she paid a condolence visit to the family of Late Yakubu Sankey, a one time Director of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau state.

Recall that the wife of the deceased, Justice Jummai Sankey is a Justice of Court of Appeal, JCA, Owerri Division.

Our correspondent gathered that late Dr.Yakubu Sankey was assassinated in his hometown of Southern Kaduna last weekend by unknown assailants.

Menzem said the news of Dr. Sankey’s demise came to her with rude shock, noting that the entire Judiciary was thrown into mourning.

“The death of Dr.Sankey is sad, unnecessary, but we must accept the will of God and pray for our nation to overcome this insecurity challenges that were currently experiencing.

“We should pray for the family for God to continue comforting and strengthen them.

“The Court of Appeal and the entire Judiciary is saddened by this irreplaceable lost because we’re one big family, and whatever happens to one touches all…

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, also sent his message of condolence to the family,” the Appellate Court President disclosed.

Dr. Babangida Sankey, son of the deceased Dr.Yakubu Sankey expressed gratitude to the President, Judges, Lawyers and management staff of Appeal Court as well as the entire Judiciary for identifying and comforting the family in their time of sorrow.

He acknowledged that Nigeria is undergoing through difficulties, encouraged Judiciary to stand their ground in discharging its constitutional role without sentiment.
