Bauchi The Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has urged both the State and Federal Government to provide succour to the people of the state who were ravaged by floods. The union, in a statement signed by it’s secretary Isah Garba Gadau, after its monthly State Working Committee (SWC) meeting, described the extent of the floods as devastating in which several communities have been cut off from the state with hundreds of thousands of farmlands washed away while other properties worth millions of naira destroyed.

The most hit local government areas according to the statement include Gamawa, Zaki that could not be accessed now until one goes through Jigawa and Yobe States.
As a result, life in these communities as well as the remaining local governments is continuously becoming very difficult hence the need for urgent governments intervention .

The statement commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for inspecting the affected communities but urged him to take a statewide assessment of the situation for prompt response.

The union also reminded the governor to fulfill his pledge of reconstructing the State Secretariat of the NUJ which is gradually being dilapidated and urged its members to continue to be objective in their reportage especially now that the electioneering campaigns are fast approaching.

The meeting urged the security operatives to intensify effort towards combating the increasing rate of houses and shops breaking and other forms of social vices within the state.
