COAS Declares Open NAEC Combined Third, Fourth Quarter Conference 2023

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja has extolled the ongoing transformation drive of the Nigerian Army Education Corps (NAEC).

The COAS made the commendation while delivering the keynote address as the Special Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony of the NAEC Combined Third and Fourth Quarter Conference, on Tuesday, 5 December 2023, holding at the Nigerian Army Institute of Science Education and Technology (NAISET) Ilorin.

Speaking further, the COAS stated that “NAEC of today is undergoing a commendable journey of growth and innovation. The renewed drive at providing effective educational services to the Nigerian Army (NA), ensuring professional development of personnel within the Corps and the transformation of Command Schools reflect a profound understanding of the pivotal role knowledge plays in shaping a modern society”.

General Lagbaja further noted that “the upscaling of the NA’s educational facilities to bring back the glorious days of NA schools is a cardinal tenet of the welfare pillar of the administration of my Command Philosophy. He assured of continuous support to all NA training schools, including those running civil courses administered by NAEC and Command Secondary Schools, towards providing affordable and qualitative education for personnel and their wards”.

The COAS represented by the General Officer Commanding 2 Division NA, Major General Bamidele Alli Alabi, also extended his deepest gratitude to NAEC for it’s steadfastness in the discharge of it’s professional roles, commitment to excellence and contributing to the ongoing efforts to shape the future of the NA, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the development of our great nation.

Delivering his welcome address, the Corps Commander Education (CC Edn) Major General Bello Alhaji Tsoho stated that ” NAEC has continued to grow in leaps and bounds with a significant increased responsibilities and modest positive influence in the NA” The CC Edn added that NAEC has continued to align itself with the operations concept of the NA, with deliberate efforts put in place to train personnel to add value to the ongoing NA operations.

General Tsoho also reiterated that Headquarters NAEC has instituted an “Award of Academic Excellence” to recognise and reward deserving students in Command Schools writing West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board examination nationwide. The CC Edn also conveyed his gratitude to the COAS for approving the conference and pledged NAEC resolve towards the realization of the COAS Command Philosophy.

The opening ceremony of the NAEC Combined Third and Fourth Quarter Conference, with the theme: “Consolidating the Nigerian Army Education Transformation Process in Support of the Chief of Army Staff Command Philosophy”, featured presentation of awards to deserving NAEC officers who have distinguished themselves in the various NA courses attended. Also, a special presentation was accorded Master Oyediran Felix Akintoye from Command Secondary School Saki, for emerging overall best male student among all public schools in Nigeria at the last WAEC 2022 examination.

Highpoint of the event was the guided tour and commissioning of various projects by the COAS and CC Edn, embarked upon by the Commandant NAISET, Major General SS Ibrahim. The projects commissioned include, the newly reconstructed Torch Bearers Arena and foundation laying for a mini mart and kitchen, the Commandant’s Conference Room and newly constructed Photo Stand, amongst other renovated Classrooms, Students Hostel and a Multi-Purpose Hall.
