The Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) has conferred its patron title on Rear Adm. Suleiman Dahun, Director of Defence Cooperation at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), in recognition of his contributions to military-media relations.
The conferment took place at the 2026 DECAN Conference on National Security and Awards, held on Monday, Oct. 12, at the Army Command Officers’ Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja.
Dahun, a former Director of Naval Information, was instrumental in providing defence journalists with practical experience in covering naval operations by facilitating their participation in onboard engagements aboard different Nigerian Navy (NN) ships.
The initiative exposed journalists to the Navy’s operational environment, enabling them to gain firsthand knowledge of its activities, capabilities and maritime security responsibilities.
His efforts also provided opportunities for defence correspondents to interact with naval personnel and better understand the operational demands of maritime security, thereby supporting more informed and accurate reporting.
The conferment reflects DECAN’s recognition of Dahun’s contributions to strengthening professional relations between the Nigerian Navy and the media, particularly through practical exposure to naval operations.
Dahun currently serves as the Director of Defence Cooperation at the DHQ.
DECAN is an association of journalists covering defence and security issues in Nigeria.
