Defense minister advocates interagency collaboration to boost energy security, tackle environmental degradation

Nigeria minister of Defense and former Governor of Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru has advocates for consistent and robust collaboration between ministries and agencies of Federal Government to boost energy security and tackle environmental degradation.

Badaru laments that Nigeria is facing a serious threat to national security as a result of climate change.

The Honorable minister who was represented by the permanent secretary ministry of Defense, Dr.Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Monday, presented a paper titled, “Industrialization, energy security and climate change: implication for National security” for participants of Senior Executive Course 45, 2023 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies,NIPSS, Kuru.

Highlighting some implementation strategies to enhanced effective energy security and curtail the menace of climate change, the permanent secretary suggested that the minister of energy should enact policies on environmental degradation and National Assembly should appropriate funding to combat climate change.

“The Attorney General of the Federation must begin to stringent legislation to promoting environmental based practices in natural resources exploitation.

“The minister of Defense and National Security Adviser should includes; the Nigeria Security Policy (NSP) and the Nigeria Defense Policy (NDP) to be short value chain.

“Minister of education, Information and National orientation to create avenues such as schools, mass media, internet and other for a for interaction and communication to shared information, ideas and basis that would help to understand the changes that occur in the environment and help indigenous to stand and cope with the environmental hazard.

“Executive secretary of the National University Commission to institute research grands to Universities and other research institutions on climate change.

“Secretary to the Government of the Federation to make sure ecological funds are properly monitor to ensure that states and Local Governments are judiciously used to tackle environmental degradation emerging challenges.

“The minister of environment as well as power to create alternative means of generating energy to probate wanton energy of foreign good as a result of energy by local inhabitants”, he stated.

Brig.Gen.Sylvester Oloyede while making a paper presentation tagged, ” understanding Defense and National Security implored policy makers to make capacity and flexibility the watchwords of strategic military and non- military planning in dealing with any contingency that may arise to threatened the Nation.

“Federal ministry of Justice in conjunction with ONSA,the ministry of interior and the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, to continue to reinforced law enforcement and immigration policies to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity.”

Earlier, Director General of NIPSS, Prof. Ayo Omotayo who was represented by Brig.Gen.Odaya revealed that the aim of Defense week is lay to a foundation for Senior Executive Course 45 participants to navigate and profer solutions to Nigeria’s energy security, climate change, Defense and security challenges.
