The Government of Delta State has shut down an illegal orphanage home located in Ashaka, Ndokwa East LGA for failure to comply with the provisions of the Child Right Act law.
The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Mrs. Flora Alatan carried out the action during an unscheduled visit to the orphanage home, Foster Paradise.
Alatan, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oghenekewe Agas, warned that orphanage homes must comply with the rules, and regulations guiding the establishment, adding that the Motherless home did not meet up with the neccessary requirements before housing more than 22 children under her care.
She reprimanaded the Proprietress of the home for not following due process, as demanded by the ministry before handing her over to the Police, saying that there was no detailed registered document to account for the homeless children.
Thereafter, 11 male children were transfered to a govt. approved orphanage known as Orem Orphanage in Ughelli North LGA, while the female children also numbering 11, were relocated to Ojone Orphanage in Ogwashi Uku, Aniocha South LGA.
Meanwhile, the proprietress of Forster Paradise Orphanage, Mrs. Antonett Eze said she just relocated from Lagos, and has just begun the registration process, but has not gotten the license.
