Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi has harped on the need for stakeholders to accord adequate support to the Nigeria Army (NA) in it’s rigorous task of tackling insecurity in the nation.

Umahi stressed the imperative for meaningful support for the NA at the Army Headquarters Abuja during a visit to honour Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj Gen Faruk Yahaya on his appointment as the 22nd COAS.

According to the Governor, the nation is passing through a challenging phase that requires stakeholders to maximally support the security agencies.

Nigerians, he warned, must desist from playing politics with security of the Nation, applauding President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Maj Gen Yahaya to lead the NA at this critical times.

He described the COAS as a detribalized Nigerian, assuring him of Ebonyi State Government’s support in the task of securing the Nation.

Umahi projected that constant cooperation and assistance of the NA and other security agencies will consolidate on the relative peace enjoyed in Ebonyi state and the nation at large.

“We must stand United and support the NA in all their activities”, he said while also paying tributes to the late COAS, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru and other fallen heroes.

In his remarks, the new COAS thanked the Governor for the kind disposition to the NA and sympathy over the demise of the late COAS.

He noted that NA and Ebonyi State have a long standing relationship that must be sustained for mutual benefits, acknowledging how much under Governor Umahi, Ebonyi has provided needed enabling environment for Army to discharge its constitutional roles.

The COAS reassured of NA’s relentless efforts to maintain peace in Ebonyi and other states in that region, urged Umahi to use his position as Chairman South East Governors forum to promote peace in the region..
