Governor Lalong Vows Rebuilding Of Burnt UniJos Veterinary Teaching Hospital

Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has assured his administration commitment towards rebuilding the burnt Veterinary Teaching Hospital, University of Jos following the fire outbreak as a result of an accident involving a tanker carrying fuel product inside.

Our correspondent learned that on Wednesday midnight a tanker carrying fuel product involved in an accident around Gada-biyu, Polo round about, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

It was also gathered that apart from the Veterinary Teaching Hospital University of Jos, shops with valuable worth billions and motorists were burnt down beyond recognition as a result of the inferno.

The Governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government Prof. Danladi Atu who led delegation Thursday on the spot assessment of the damages done as a result of the fire outbreak in Jos the Plateau State capital.

“I must say that the damages is a colossal, the soul and the heart of the Institute has been destroyed. I said this because the laboratory has been destroyed, equipment yet to be installed all destroyed.

According to him, “I hold this Institution with high esteem, as someone who gave birth and is nurturing it to grow, thinking that before his exit the Institution will have solid ground to stand in the annals of Veterinary practice destroyed.

“We are mindful of the fact that the equipments burnt here is what attracted the international conference going on at the Institution. This means that for the pride of the place and the pride of Plateau State, we have to refurbished this place again.”

He called for support from various Institutions, Organization and spirited individuals to come to the aid of the teaching hospital which has began to attract International Organizations on animals related issues in the world.

“We need to look at the architecture of the area again,  Government through JMDB has put in some measures long before now to curtail the rate of accident in this roundabout with by mounting speed bumps, because this is not the first time, second or third times and we are going to factor this .”   

The Dean Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Head of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital University of Jos, Prof. Lami Lombin said the unfortunate development has pulled the Institution back considering the fact that equipments has led to the accreditation of the Institution has been burnt down completely.

“The equipments destroyed are very expensive equipment, in fact the burnt equipments are what jack up the profile of this Veterinary Teaching Hospital to International level, that today there is an International Conference going on in the Institution.
