A one day capacity building workshop was organized by the Defence Headquarters on conflict, sensitive communication and strategic media relations, for public relations and information officers in the Armed Forces, because of the challenges the country is facing.

The Chief Of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, who was represented by the Chief of Police and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Dajiru Sanda said, the training workshop is to make the Arm Forces have a verse knowledge, and to be able to carry out their duties effectively.

Gen Irabor said the theme; Proactive Conflict, Sensitive Communication, and information was aimed at broadening the officersā€™ knowledge on techniques and strategies in media relations, towards positive defence information management. He stressed that this would make the Armed Forces to be more professional in discharging its duties.

The CDS further said the workshop is to ensure that the public relations and information officers are able to meet up with defence information management for current and future realities. He tasked military spokesmen to be proactive in managing public information and communication, especially at this period of security challenges.

He said the workshop would facilitate the advancement of a responsive approach to strategy and communication management in the Armed Forces.

The CDS called on the military spokesmen to continue to patronize various communication techniques and platforms to effectively disseminate information to the general public in such a way that they would have trust and confidence on the military.

The organizers of the workshop, and Chief Executive Officer, Media Today International, Barr. Charles Odenigbo, said the military must put hands on the deck to be able to feed the public in a proactive manner, with accurate information and activeness.

He said, the military is currently facing challenges across the country that they have to work with the media so that their news or stories would be reported positively because the public is waiting eagerly to know what the military is doing interns of the challenges rocking the Country right now.

Dr. Ikechukwu who is the resource person, said there was need for the military to be conscious of what may lead to conflict, and should systematically avoid words or information that could trigger negative reactions. He also said the military should have good relationship with the media to be able to disseminate information to the public positively.

The Deputy Director, Defence Information, Air Commodore Wap Maigida said sensitive communication is very important across the globe and that the military should continue to deploy the needed communication strategies in order to manage conflict.

Maigada also said the workshop was to broaden the military spokesmen’s knowledge, and to bring them and the media closer on how to carry out their duties for the interest of peace, and national security in the country.
