Insecurity: Move Beyond Lamentations To Measurable Actions ECWA Tells FG—-Holds 73rd GCC
By Agada Daniel, Jos
The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), has charged the Federal Government of Nigeria on the urgent need to move beyond lamentation towards decisive, coordinated, and measurable action in tackling insecurity ravaging the nation.
ECWA denomination said they were grief over the continued loss of lives and destruction of property among its members as a result of persistent insecurity across the nation.
“These tragic and unacceptable developments highlight the escalating security challenges confronting citizens’ safety and well-being, particularly in vulnerable communities, and underscore the apparent inadequacy of effective government protection.
“The recent killings and kidnappings of citizens of this nation, a situation that is reported across all six geopolitical zones of the country”, ECWA mentioned.
The above concern was raised during the 73rd General Church Council (GCC) meeting of ECWA, held at the international headquarters in Jos, from 21st to 24th April 2026.

Our reports that the council meeting brought together delegates from 96 District Church Councils (DCCs), representing ECWA constituencies both within Nigeria and diaspora, where discussion on Church leadership, development and other wide ranging national issues took a center stage.
Highlighting a 16- points communique issued, the ECWA President, Rev. Dr.Job Ayuba Bagat alongside General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Ayuba Asheshe, confirmed that ECWA now have a total of 100 DCCs.
“The Council considered the growth of the denomination in different areas including the widespread membership in different locations. In response to this, it approved the creation of the following District Church Councils on a probational period of two years: Chonge-Pero DCC (from Shongom DCC), Tafawa Balewa DCC (from Dass DCC), and Kontagora DCC (from Minna DCC).
“These decisions were made to enhance administrative efficiency and strengthen missional effectiveness which brings the total of the DCCs in ECWA to 100”, Bagat said.
Acknowledging the efforts of Nigerian government towards advancing national infrastructural development, ECWA president said the council expressed grave concern over the deteriorating condition of roads across the country, which continues to pose significant risks to lives and property, while also impeding economic productivity and national mobility.
“In light of this, the Council calls on the Government to accord urgent priority to the comprehensive rehabilitation and sustained maintenance of critical road infrastructure nationwide. Such interventions should be deliberate, transparent, and consistently implemented to ensure durability, public safety, and measurable impact on the nation’s socio-economic development.”
On the issue of 2027 Nigeria’s general elections, the council tasked all ECWA eligible members to to ensure that they duly registered and to participate actively in the electoral process at all level.
“The absence of principled and value-driven individuals in the political space often creates room for poor governance and leadership deficits.
“We called the electoral umpire to conduct their responsibilities with the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and fairness, thereby strengthening public confidence in the electoral process and its outcomes.
“The Council urges all members to remain prayerful and discerning, trusting God to guide the nation toward righteous leadership and sustainable development.”
It was also observed that during the 73rd GCC meeting elections were held on 21st April 2026, in which Rev. Chidi Madubuko, ECWA Vice-President elect, replaces the outgoing Vice-president Rev. Dr. Sunday Ajise, while Rev. Dr. Ayuba Asheshe was returned unopposed for a second term as ECWA General Secretary, in accordance with the council’s established procedures.
