Jos Central Rotarians Rendes Free Medical Treatments to Plateau Community

In a bid to address the menace of maternal and child health, in Jos and environs, the Rotary Club International of Jos central has embarked on a two day free medical outreach services to over 300 residents of Rantya community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau state.

Our correspondent gathered that the two day free medical outreach which kicked off on Friday 26th, May and ends Saturday 27th May, 2023, in the community where eye test, blood pressure test, malaria test and treatment, blood sugar test, Covid-19 test as well as hepatitis test were conducted.

It was also learnt that lenses and drugs were administered freely.

Speaking during the exercise at Primary Healthcare Clinic, PHC, Rantya, Dr.Godwin Osaigbovo, assistant governor of Rotary International District 9125 said the programme, anchored by Rotary club of Jos central, is a very laudable project that intends to attend to the health needs of Plateau living in Rantya, Lowcost community.

Dr.Osaigbovo, a consultant Neurologist with Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) and senior Lecturer, Faculty of medical sciences, college of medical sciences University of Jos, further explained, “we all know that in Nigeria today taking care of your health needs has to be from your pocket.

“In a situation whereby you know that the take home pay of average civil servant is not even enough to take the person home, and then you now find out that you have to pay from your pocket to attend to your health needs is always a problem.

” Most of the time, patients went to the teaching hospital and Doctors write drugs for them and they cannot be able to buy them and the illness continue to ravaged their bodies .

“So,in this medical outreach we intend to attend to both communicable and non communicable diseases that is disturbing our people”, he stated.

The medical expert also appealed to well meaning individuals to partner with Rotary International, partner non governmental organizations to meet the health needs of the people, noting that ” health is wealth and anybody that is not health cannot firm for a living.

“So, that is why we congratulate Rotary club of Jos central for finding it worthy to come to this community and attend to their health needs.

President Rotary club of Jos central, Rotarian Iyke Ofoegbu said all the activities they are doing is a deliberate efforts of the members who have been contributing from their pockets.

” Before embarking on a project we always had a visibility studies to see where we can come in and assist a community. Our focus this time is on maternal and child health.

“Our projection for this medical outreach is 300 persons for two day, 150 people each day but as can see the number is more than 300 which is overwhelming.

“So, in Rotary club of Jos central were been assisting and helping the needy and less privileged in the society right from onset,that is why we’re thanking God because the more we give the more we received”, Ofoegbu mentioned.

Deputy director PHC Jos South LGA, Zandi Ibrahim acknowledged they were on strike but because of the importance of the free medical outreach that is why they open the facility for Rotary club of Jos central to be use and attend to the peoples health needs.
