Match Your Word With Actions – Gov. Sherriff Admonishes New Commissioners

The Delta State Government has swore in 26 new commissioners in the State. The event took place at the prestigious Event Cetntre in Asaba
Delivering his speech, the executive governor of the State, Rt. Honorable Sherriff Oborovweri said, those who made the list are among the privileged few and should count themselves lucky, as it took them weeks of high level screening before they arrived at the final list
He said the youth in the list, represent the breath of fresh air, while the old hands will provide the experience, wisdom, mentoring and maturity that is needed. He said his government will put all hands on deck to make sure the various needs of the people are catered for, stressing that the final list was on merit, competence and ability to think outside the box He maintained that the commissioners should humble themselves and serve the people, stating that being a commissioner does not make one Superior to others.
Speaking further, he said the M.O.R.E Agenda calls for drive, focus, innovation and judicious dispensation of resources. He advised the commissioners to always monitor projects under their ministry and institute a mechanism for feedback of the projects, uriging them to be role models in terms of discipline , punctuality accountability and excellence. ” People will do what they see you do, not what you say, hence, match your words with actions”He added that they should shun ethnicity and maintain an open door policy and be guided by fairness, equity and Justice in their actions
In terms of welfare, Gov Sherriff said his government has taken a bold step to ameliorate the suffering of the masses, by approving the payment of ten thousand naira to fifty thousand, one hundred and eighty six naira in the State public service for the next 3 months starting from August. Again , workers from great level 1 to 14 will run shift as follows. First batch, Monday. to Wednesday, second batch, Thursday to Friday. This will be run on a weekly basis to ensure fairness. Those on level 15 to 16 will work out modalties as it suits them. However, those on essential duty must be on service .He said his government recently approved the payment of promotion arrears of 23, 887 workers in the State public service at a cost of 5, 502, 637, 848, 005 to be paid in 4 tranches starting from this August. Also, the issue of Local Government pension arreas is being tackled, as his government is seeking a loan of 40 billion Naira to offset the liability.
In the area of recruitment, the governor said he has given his nod to the 25 LG in the State, to recruit both teaching and non teaching staff to fill up the existing vacancies, this will provide job for at least two thousand people. Finally, he said he has constituted a committee that is headed by the SSG , to work out palliatives for the vulnerable population, such as, people living with disabilities, widows and other homeless people. Also, they are looking at the possibility of aquring electric powered public tricycles and also converting the existing ones from petrol to gas
This will help in fighting climate change and also bring down the cost of transportation . He then admonished the elected officials to be their brothers keeper by being diligent in their duties

Ajudua, Darlington Ijeh, Funyei Manager, God knows Angel, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, Emamusi Obiodeh, Perez Omoun, Orode Uduaghan, Isaac Tosan Wilkie, Agbateyimiro Weyinmi, Samuel Oligida, Prof. Tonukari Johnbull Etagherure Ejiro Terry, Jamani Tommy Ejiro, Onoriode Agofure, Izeze Reuben Vincent Oyibode and Akporokiamo Ekedayen
