NASS: Nigeria Ranks 10th Highest Gas Emitting Countries, 7th Largest Flaring Nations In The World -Senator Lawal

The chairman senate committee on ecology and climate change, senator Dr Lawal Hassan Anka at the pre-international summit meeting with major stakeholders to delibrate on the need for countries to strengthen their emissions reduction and ensured their national climate change actions tally with the average global temperature limits of not more than 1.5 degrees by 2030 in consonance with the Paris agreement.
The meeting was held at the National Assembly in Abuja.

Lawal who emphasized the bottom line of all important subject matter of the Scotland parties said this will be first on climate change in Nigeria and indeed Africa. He reiterated desire to strengthen the countries and their emissions reduction as to align with national climate action, with the view that the climate do not rise above global average temperature.

During the media chat at senate hearing room 1, white house National Assembly the committee chairman stated that the meeting will serve as the first of it kind on climate change in Africa.

Dr Lawal emphasized, the focus will be on Collective Action For Gas Emission Reduction And Climate Change Mitigation In Nigeria* “.
The summit among other things will projects and brainstorm on the way forward and take a peep into development, while frawn at that Nigeria is the highest gas emitter and constantly ranked among the 10th countries in the world and 7th largest gas flaring in the globe which is the combination of other emission sources like oil pillage and the non- oil sector, notably agriculture, transportation and power sector.

The committee chairman, Lawal stressed that lake-Chad basin is rapidly drying up and the entire country Nigeria is assailed by climate-induce conflicts leading to high human casualties and by unquantifiable materials loses against the backdrop of generally low level of citizens and cooperate awareness about individual and collective contribution to climate change menace
