NYG 2023:Team Bayelsa Continues Impressive Run at 7th National Youth Games.

Bayelsa State table tennis team on Sunday won bronze in the men’s doubles in the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba Delta, tagged Asaba 2023.

Fineboy Samuel and Victor Udoh both secured bronze for team Bayelsa in men’s doubles having earlier beaten Kogi State 2-1 in the quarter finals but lost to Lagos State in semi finals to get an automatic bronze medal. 

Team Bayelsa in the women’s doubles lost 2-0 to Kwara State with attention now shifting to the singles both men and women.

Hostilities will return on Monday at the indoor hall of the Stephen Keshi Stadium by 9am with expectations on the young stars Fineboy Samuel and Victor Udoh.

However it was a sad one in Volleyball as both male and female lost their respective matches, the male volleyball were beaten  2-0 by Oyo State, while the female team lost by the same margin also to Oyo State.

Bayelsa Handball team will tomorrow by noon take on Imo State at Ogwashi-Uku venue, earlier in the day Bayelsa and Delta played out 25-25 in a keenly contested game.

Weightlifting which had earlier given Bayelsa three gold medals increased Bayelsa’s medal tally with three bronze coming from Christan Iyabo.

Elsewhere in Chess Bayelsa the female team beat their Imo State counterpart 4-0 same scoreline with male who defeated Imo State, also in the last game of the day Bayelsa team spanked Ogun State 3-1 in the female category.

In an interview, two Bayelsa Table Tennis stars Fineboy Samuel and Victor Udoh, said they are in Asaba Delta State to make Bayelsa proud, stating that they are elated to participate in the 7th National Youth Games.

They also promised to win medals for Bayelsa State, adding that their target is to perform beyond this level in various careers.

The duo commended the chairman of Bayelsa State Table Tennis Association Mr. Ama-Ebi Ebikpolade for giving table tennis in Bayelsa premium attention describing him as the best thing that has happened to table tennis in the State.
