OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA TROOPS APPREHEND TWO SUSPECTED TERRORISTS, RECOVER ARMS AND INTELLIGENCE MATERIALS IN ZAMFARA
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, operating from the Forward Operating Base, Kaura Namoda, have apprehended two suspected terrorists and recovered arms, ammunition and other intelligence materials during a targeted night patrol in Zamfara State.
The intelligence-led fighting patrol, conducted in the early hours of 25 August 2026, formed part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s sustained offensive operations aimed at disrupting criminal activities and restricting the movement of terrorist elements across vulnerable communities in the state.
At approximately 1:50 a.m., the troops intercepted and arrested the two suspects, identified as 25-year-old Jabiru Hassan and 23-year-old Umaru Bello. Both suspects are reportedly residents of Ilela Village in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
During the operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, two rifle magazines, one locally fabricated Dane gun, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 18 Dane-gun cartridges.
Other items recovered include two Baofeng radio sets, one mobile phone, one camouflage vest, two jungle hats, one motorcycle, two MP3 players, one handbag and N44,500 cash.
Preliminary exploitation of the mobile phone recovered from one of the suspects revealed potentially incriminating photographs and video materials considered to be of significant intelligence value.
The recovered materials are currently undergoing rigorous verification and forensic analysis to establish the suspects’ possible links to wider terrorist networks and criminal activities within Zamfara State.
The ongoing investigation is expected to provide critical intelligence on the suspects’ movements, associates and operational networks, while further reinforcing Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist and criminal elements across its area of responsibility.
