Prof Uche Ikonne Demise, PDP In Search Of A Replacement.

The Abia State Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Professor Uche Eleazar Ikonne passed on at the early hours of today’s morning, at the national hospital Abuja.
Prof Ikonne, who was campaigning to become the next governor of the State, after 2023 general election died out stress. The question now is, how will the party pick the new Governorship candidate ahead of the 2023 Gubernatorial Election in the state.
The Section 33 of the electoral act of 2022 as amended by the 9th senate, the Peoples Democratic Party must hold a fresh Governorship primary to select a new candidate in the state within the next 14 days after the death of Prof Ikonne, who was the candidate of the party.
As it is now, the name of the party new governorship candidate must be submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission within 14days, While the late Professor Ikonne’s name be substituted with that of a new candidate, that of his running mate, remain unchanged.
So it is expected that before 12midnight of February 8 2023, the new governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, must have been elected and his name, forward to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for substitution.
