Director of Press and Public Affairs (DOPPA) to the Government of Plateau state, Gyang Bere, has charged social media influencers to take advantage of their various platforms in promoting positive development and accelerate national cohesion.

Bere believed social media has come to stay, hence the need for government appointees to deliberately adopt a habit of using such to revitalize, sanitize, and educate Plateau citizens about government policies and programs.

He made this known over the weekend while speaking to youth volunteers who stage a solidarity in support of Governor Caleb Mutfwang good governance stride and peace efforts on the Plateau.

DOPPA revealed it is evidence that Governor Mutfwang is changing the narrative of governance in Plateau since assumption of office.

“The essence of this gathering is to use social media as a tool for development and to communicate government policies to the people of Plateau State and Nigeria at large. We are here to ensure that social media is used positively for people to know the key things it can be used for, such as creating wealth. Instead of using it for propaganda and harmful purposes, we must use it to communicate the development in Plateau State under Barr. Caleb Mutfwang.

“We are aware of the Metro City buses purchased to address the hardship caused by subsidy removal, and people are happy with them. We must use social media to communicate these developments. The government has also revitalized the railway in Plateau State, and we are here to ensure these developments are communicated effectively.

“The government has signed Executive Order 003 into law, geared towards urban renewal, to restructure the city of Jos and prevent it from degenerating into a slum. This law is not targeting any individual, ethnic group, or religion. It aims to unite the people of Plateau and create an enabling environment for businesses”, he mentioned.

The Director General of the Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (PICTDA), Mr. Dominic Datong, assured “as the engineer of the social media collaboration on this platform, my role is to ensure that influencers use social media responsibly and effectively to communicate accurate and positive messages about Plateau State.

“We must use social media responsibly. A single message can go further than what television can carry. With television, at least you know the source and can analyze it, but social media is vast and instant. A message from a village in Kanke can end up in Rwanda, South Africa, or America. Therefore, we have to be careful with the use of technology.”
