Zamfara: Troops Disrupt Kidnappers’ Operations, Rescue 10 Victims
In the tense corridors of Zamfara’s troubled highways and rural communities, a swift military response has once again turned what could have been another kidnapping tragedy into a story of survival.
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled two separate kidnapping attempts and rescued 10 victims during ongoing clearance operations aimed at restoring peace and security across the Northwest.
The first incident occurred on September 27 along the Tsafe–Funtua Road, where troops deployed around the Kwanoni axis of Tsafe Local Government Area responded to reports of gunfire.
As the soldiers advanced towards the troubled area, the armed attackers engaged them in a brief exchange of fire. However, confronted by the superior firepower of the troops, the assailants were forced to abandon their operation and flee into the surrounding terrain.
Before the arrival of the troops, the attackers had set a commercial vehicle ablaze. The rapid military intervention, however, enabled the occupants to be evacuated safely.
In the chaos of the attack, another vehicle reportedly lost control. Troops secured the area and rescued six people from the vehicle before clearing the highway and restoring safe passage for motorists.
The operation underscored the critical role of rapid military intervention on major highways, where travellers remain vulnerable to attacks and abductions.
In a separate intelligence-driven operation in Maru Local Government Area, troops responded to reports of an abduction at Kade Daba Village in Kanoma District.
On arrival, the troops engaged the perpetrators, compelling them to abandon their captives and flee. Three victims were immediately rescued at the scene.
Determined not to leave anyone behind, the troops launched follow-up search operations across the surrounding area. Their efforts led to the discovery and rescue of another victim, bringing the total number rescued from the incident to four. Altogether, the two operations resulted in the safe recovery of 10 victims.
For the rescued civilians, the military intervention represents more than an operational success. It is a return from uncertainty and fear to the possibility of reuniting with loved ones.
The victims are currently receiving necessary care and assessment before being reunited with their families.
The operations also highlight the importance of timely intelligence, rapid response and sustained military presence in confronting kidnapping and armed criminal activities across Zamfara State.
As Operation FANSAN YAMMA continues its clearance operations, the rescue of the 10 victims provides another indication of the ongoing efforts by security forces to deny criminal elements freedom of action and protect communities and travellers across the Northwest.
