The fellowship of Christian Churches in Nigeria, TEKAN, has charged Christians in Nigeria to reject any political party who ceded it’s presidential ticket to Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian in 2023 general elections.
The fellowship decry the high level of financial inducement by the aspirants cutting across APC and PDP during party primaries, calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do the needful not to peg our democracy for the high bigger.
TEKAN President Rev.Dr. Caleb Ahima alongside general secretary Rev. Moses Ebuga while speaking to reporters in Jos on Tuesday appeal to Economic and financial crimes Commission, EFCC, to arrest all those who involved in inducement of delegates, noting that ” we must stand for the credible candidates irrespective of their financial status.
“As a fellowship, we stand to condemn such calls for Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian ticket, stressing that the diversity of our country and the religious sensitivity in the country at this material time cannot allow for such proposal, hence the need to consider both religion in our choice- making for the leadership of our country.”
TEKAN also expressed concern over Governor Nasiru El-rufai of Kaduna state action of religious intolerance in which he demolished a Christian worship center in the state university recently.
According to TEKAN, “the government selected the Church for the demolition, while about three mosques within the school are not affected, such an act by Governor is only a confirmation of his hatred towards the Christian religion.
“The security challenges in the country is almost at the highest level in the history of the country. We have daily killing of citizens most especially Christians. This is a matter of great concern to the fellowship.
“The killing of Christians in southern Kaduna, Plateau, Borno, Benue, Taraba and other states in Nigeria is unacceptable. We call on President Muhammadu Buhari and the security chiefs to act swiftly to prevent the Nigerian state from derailing into the state of anarchy.
