Plateau information commissioner tasks Journalists on healthy sight
…As NUJ correspondents’ chapel render free eye treatment for members,others

The Honourable commissioner, Plateau State ministry of information and communication, Musa Ibrahim Ashoms has described eyes as a basic necessity organ in human body which it’s function cannot be over emphasized.
Ashoms charged citizens most especially Journalists to constantly examine their sight for healthy living as it is the window and door for wealth creation.

The information and communication commissioner gave the hint Monday, as he declared open a free eye check up organized by leadership of the correspondents’ chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State council in collaboration with Sightsaver Nigeria.
Our correspondent reports that, a one day free eye treatment, held at NUJ Secretariat Jos witnessed massive turn out of beneficiaries not only from the pen profession but other works of life as eye glasses and medicine were distributed freely.
According to Ashoms, We want to thank the leadership of the correspondent chapel under Mr.Polycarp Auta in less than three months of assumption of office is bringing this noble partnership. “This is what leadership should bring. And for the sightsaver with what your doing is worthy of commendation and we want to say thank you for saving the sight of our dear Journalists.

“As a forth estate of the realm we deserve to have our vision, we deserve to have to eye and deserve to see clearly. And today by this exercise we believe that Journalists on the Plateau not only from the correspondents’ chapel would benefit from this benevolence.
“Sightsaver have been doing this for a while and that is why the state government under Barr.Caleb Mutfwang is in partnership with them. We had the center in Shendam, Pankshin and very soon we are going to have another one in Jos so that the sight of our people would be restored.
When you cross 40 years you begin to have sight effect, so it is good to take care of your eye because it is the window to your wealth, it is the door to your wealth and without a vision a lot of things cannot be achieved…”
Chairman NUJ Plateau State Council, Mrs. Ayuku Pwaspo acknowledged that eye is very important in human existence especially Journalists. A lot of people had been suffering from sight issues but they don’t know due to negligence.
While commending correspondents’ chapel for the noble gesture, Pwaspo challenged other chapels to followed suit by organizing programmes that are beneficial to members.
Mr.Polycarp Auta, chairman correspondents’ chapel NUJ Plateau council, said the initiative is part of the executive members of the chapel driven philosophy aimed at attaining to welfare of members.

He appreciates Sightsaver for hacking to the demands of the chapel by way of partnership and rendered free eye services.
The Country Director, Sightsaver Nigeria, Dr.Sunday Isiyaku, represented by the senior program manager, Dr. Selben Penzin revealed that the International organization having existed for many years in Nigeria, they are in partnership with media, and NUJ Plateau State correspondents’ chapel is not an exception.
She said the organization rendering services in the areas of eye prevention, treatment of eye blindness as well as other humanitarian assistance.
