NASS: “House Panel vows to Sanction Finance, Agric Ministers, Auditor-General Over Missing Farm Subsidy Funds”
By Urube Peter, Abuja
The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating Agricultural Subsidies, Intervention Funds, Aids and Grants Programmes has summoned Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Minister of Agriculture Senator Abubakar Kyari, and Auditor-General of the Federation Shaakaa Chira to appear before it on February 3.
The committee, chaired by Hon. Jamo Aminu, expressed dissatisfaction with the unsatisfactory documentation and gaps in accountability records presented, particularly the Office of the Auditor-General’s inability to provide audit reports on several agricultural subsidy and intervention programmes between 2015 and 2025.
The investigation aims to scrutinize public spending in the agricultural sector amid concerns over food insecurity, rising food prices, and questions surrounding the effectiveness of past intervention programmes.
Hon Aminu emphasized that transparency and accountability are non-negotiable, and failure to honour the invitation would attract legislative sanctions.
A deputy director in the Office of the Auditor-General, Mohammed Adamu, attributed the delay in producing reports to the non-availability of key documents from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, stating that the office had repeatedly requested relevant records but received no cooperation
