Operation FANSAN YAMMA Foil Terrorists’ Midnight Attack On Zamfara Community, Kill Several Bandits
Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully foiled a planned terrorist attack on Gamdanda Village in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing several bandits and recovering weapons and other items during a fierce overnight gun battle.
Military sources disclosed that the operation was carried out in the early hours of today, June 20, 2026, following credible intelligence indicating that a group of heavily armed terrorists was advancing towards the community with the intention of launching a devastating attack.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops of Headquarters 8 Division Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, strategically positioned themselves along the terrorists’ suspected route and laid an ambush to intercept the criminals before they could reach their target.
The terrorists reportedly walked into the ambush under the cover of darkness, triggering an intense exchange of gunfire that lasted throughout the night and continued until daybreak.
Military sources said the troops demonstrated exceptional courage, resilience and tactical superiority during the encounter, forcing the terrorists to abandon their mission and retreat in disarray after suffering significant casualties.
Several of the fleeing terrorists were believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds sustained during the engagement, while many others were neutralised in the operation.
A subsequent exploitation of the battlefield led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, eight motorcycles, camouflage uniforms and assorted food items believed to have been intended for the terrorist operation.
Importantly, the operation was executed without any casualty on the side of the troops, underscoring the effectiveness of the military’s intelligence-driven operations and growing operational dominance across the North-West theatre.
Security analysts say the successful interdiction highlights the sustained pressure being mounted by Operation FANSAN YAMMA against terrorist and bandit networks operating across Zamfara and neighbouring states.

Residents of Gamdanda and surrounding communities have continued to express relief over the intervention, which prevented what could have resulted in significant loss of lives and destruction of property.
The latest success adds to a series of recent military operations aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves, disrupting criminal logistics networks and restoring peace to vulnerable communities across the North-West region.
Military authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements while encouraging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
