Abia Govt Charged elected councilors, to brace up challenges of purposeful representation

The Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie lkpeazu has charged the elected Councillors in the 17 Local Govt Areas, to brace up to the challenges of purposeful representation and evolving laws that will be of benefit to people at the grassroots.
lkpeazu who gave the charge while declaring open a one day Seminar organized by the Abia State PDP in conjunction with M C Resources Ltd for elected Councillors held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia stressed the need for a complete synergy between the Councillors and their Local Govt Chairmen to enable them deliver the much needed democracy dividends to their people.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu described the theme of the seminar, as a “Capacity Building As A Panacea For Legislative Excellence” as very apt and timely in view of the urgent need for close collaboration between the legislature and the Executive arm of Govt to remain partners in progress and work towards strengthening democracy in the State and Nation.
He pointed out that his administration, will resolved against all odds to conduct the Local Government election a second time in the State to ensure that the grassroots gets involved in governance, expressing delight that, by this singular act, the spirit of democracy has been instilled on the people.
The State Chief Executive used the forum to appreciate the State PDP Chairman for organizing the session to enable Councillors to take advantage of the various Resource Persons who are experts in their fields and pay rapt attention to enable them get the best in the act of legislation.
Earlier in his remarks, the State Chairman of PDP, Chief Alwell Asiforo Okere said that the seminar is part of their efforts to strengthen every section of Govt to enable them work well in line with the constitution as the third tier of Govt in their capacity of overseeing oversight functions and relationship between the Executive and legislators in terms of law making.
The seminar which featured the paper presentations titled ” Relationship Between The Executive And The Legislature For Good Governance In The Local Govt Council” by a former Commissioner for Transport, Chief Chinedum Elechi and ” Representation At The Third Tier Of Government” by a legal luminary, Mr Agbai Iro Ogbuabia attracted the presence of top Govt Officials, PDP Party Chieftthes among others.
