Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency Bye-election

Arise from political gimmicks making the rounds that mock primary election was not conducted for all the aspirants from Bassa who declared interest to contest the forthcoming Bye-Election for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency aimed at producing a sole candidate for the ruling All progressive Congress, APC. It was gathered that election actually conducted and Hon. Lumumba Dah Adeh emerged winner.
This was revealed to Journalists by the Secretary of the electoral Committee who is the former Commissioner in Plateau State Hon. Samuel Para in Jos, stated on Thursday.
Para said the process of pruning the 18 contestants across the three chiefdoms that make up Bassa Local Government was transparent and accepted by all contestants and delegates.
With this development, Para said the committee has already written and submitted its report to the party.
According to him, ” the assignment given to us was to shop for the candidate that will finish the remaining tenure of late Hon. Haruna Maitala who joined his ancestors about six months ago.
“The vacancy was officially declared and the party felt it wish to follow precedence, just like what happened when Senator Ignatius Longjan passed on, in which they returned the ticket to Qua’anpan Local Government Area.
“Bassa Local Government is a multi ethnic and multi religious that consists three chiefdoms namely: Rukuba, Irigwe and Pengana chiefdoms respectively.
“Each chiefdom have agreed with the led down procedures and modalities put in place as enshrined in the APC Constitution.
“Part of the procedure was that you cannot be a member of the committee and at the same time a contestant.
“We are appealing to all contestants in Bassa LGA to bury all their differences and work for the betterment of the party.
“I also called on other aspirants from Jos North LGA who indicated interest to please allow Bassa the opportunity to complete the tenure”, Hon. Para stated.
Our correspondent learned that on Monday October 8, 2021, the National Assembly Abuja (House of Representatives) declared the seat of Jos North/ Bassa Constituency vacant.
With this development the Bye-election may likely hold February next year 2022.
