Bauchi SWAN Awards Best Performing Sports Journalists As Ishola Michael Emerges Best Print Sports Journalist Of The Year

The 2022 Inter-media sports competition organized by the Bauchi state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) was on Saturday rounded up with presentations of awards to deserving members as Ishola Michael Adeyemi of the Correspondents Chapel emerging Best Sports Journalist of the Year in the print categories.
Announcing the award recipients at the ceremony held at the Conference hall of Development Exchange Center (DEC), the Best Sports Journalist for Television went to Abdullahi Shehu Yankari of Bauchi State Television while Best Sports Journalist, Radio went to Mubarak Aliyu of Albarka Radio.
The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria Globe FM, Bauchi football team which emerged winners of the football event was presented with its trophy and other gift items.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition was won by Abdulrasheed Shehu of Globe FM, Best goalkeeper was Mansur Yusuf of Albarka Radio and Highest goal scorer went to Babandija of BATV for registering 4 goals during the competition.
Other categories of awards included Badminton, Table Tennis and scrabble.
Outside the SWAN family Dauda Shehu of sports medicals was awarded best supporting staff while Director Sports, Bauchi Sports Council, Lawan Garba was recognised as the best sports administrator.
SWAN Bauchi also bestowed the award of Sports Man of the year to Usman Yusuf, Nigeria’s only International Wrestling Referee.
Apart from representing Africa in 3 Common Wealth Games as a referee, Usman has won Lauretts for bauchi state in 48kg and 52kg freestyle.
Speaking at the award presentation, the Zonal Vice President of SWAN, Zakaria Jibo commended Bauchi State chapter for organising the week, noting that it has provided an opportunity for Journalists to take time off their busy schedules and relax.
Zakaria Jibo said that talents discovered from the competition will form a formidable team for the forthcoming National SWAN competition to which the zone is the current champion.
State chairman of SWAN, Mahmood Yakubu Ibn Mohammed thanked the Bauchi State Government for her support to the success of the week .
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Director Sports, Bauchi Sports Council Lawal Garba challenged SWAN to include more games to be competed for especially sports where female journalists can participate.
He appreciated SWAN for the awards pledging their continues support to sporting activities in the State.
