Courtesy Call : Third party interference , vandalism and willful damage major cause of oil spillages in Niger Delta – SACA

The Executive Director of Stakeholders Alliance for Corporate Accountability ( SACA ) Kingsley Ozegbe has disclosed that a review of the National oil spill monitor website has revealed that third party interference , vandalism and willful damage has accounted for 76.24% of 1,107 oil spill incidences between January 2018 and July 2020.
He made the disclosure during a courtesy call on the Commandant of the Nigeria security and Cilvil Defence corps, NSCDC, Mrs Lucy Fakoya and management staff.
According to him, further analysis unveiled that about 48% of the spillages occured in Rivers state,21% , Delta state, 15% Bayelsa state and 16% in 6 other states that producing oil.
In her Speech earlier, the state commandant of the Nigeria security and Cilvil Defence corps, Mrs Lucy Fakoya promised to collaborate with SACA and other stakeholders in the fight against oil spill on our environment.”

According to her,” we all need ourselves as no institutions work independent of others without collaboration, asserting that we all need each other”
She further, emphasized on collaboration, as they are not in competition to fight a common enemy , hence the organization doesn’t as part of its mandate neglect any call and always swig into action as they go out there to protect federal government critical infrastructure.

And she also gave assurance of further cooperation whenever their services were needed..
