Gov. Okowa, Ruga , Harry Song Add color To National Sports Festival

It was all pomp and pageantry yesterday night as the Opening Ceremony of the 21st National Sports Festival tagged ,Delta 2022, officially kicked off at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium Asaba, Delta State.
The ceremony which started few hours behind schedule was anchored by ace presenter, Harrison Ocholor and Onome Iyarovwe.
The spectators who came to witness the event were treated to a spectacle by the colorful march past of the athletes and the quite amazing calisthenics display of the Children
Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Gov. of Delta State, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, welcomed everybody and said that everything has been put in place to have a hitch free games. He also commended the organizers for a job well done and promised that there will be free vehicular movement in Asaba and its environs during this period
In the same vain, the Secretary to the State Gov, (SSG), Mr. Patrick Ukah, has assured the athletes of a good stay as the State is very hospitable and peaceful with various food delicacies.
After the opening ceremony , spectators were entertained by various music artist including , Ruga , Harry Song and Bella Shmurda who rendered different tunes that threw the whole crowd in the stadium into a frenzy
Meanwhile, the medal rush has already started counting for Delta State as the State won a gold medal in cycling yesterday
The National Sports Festival is a biennial multi sport event that came into existence in 1973. The objective of the games is to use sport as a unifying factor in the country and also fish out young talents that will represent the country in global events
Since inception, the games have discovered great athletes like Chidi. Imoh, Mary Onyali, Falilat Ogunkoya Davidson Ezinwa Florence Omagbemi and others
This years edition is the 21st edition and Delta State is the defending champion. More than 11 thousand athletes from various part of the country are competing for honors in 35 games and Delta State has won 8 out of the previous 10 games. Activities for the games resume today.
