Imo State records one case of monkey pox—Dr. Nwosu

A renowned Medical Practitioner based in Owrri, Imo State and the Medical Director of Chinyere Hospital Dr. Nwosu has said that Imo State has recorded one case Monkey pox.

Speaking with journalists in Owerri, Imo State over the weekend,he said that the epidemics of money pox from what is available has no treatment.

He disclosed that those who have received vaccine in 1950s and 1960s should not worry themselves about the out break of money pox, and he advised imolites to go and take vaccine so as to stop being Infected

Nwosu however called on the people to imbibe habit of adequate hygiene, reduce contact of wild animals among themselves unless immunized and finally to Isolate those that have developed symptoms of such dreaded epidemic.

Similarly, another Medical Practitioner based in Aba, Abia State who gave his name as Frank Osuigwe projected that Monkey Pox is spread mainly by contact (sexual intercourse) articles handled by an infected person, by third person and probably by air and flies.

He reiterated that the incubation period is between 10–14 days with headache, vomiting, backache and rigor as the body temperature rises to 103–120 degrees.

Osuigwe said that this development followed with pro dermal reddish rash that takes the form of big spots and papules which turn blisters on the fifth day and pustules on the ninth day and when the pustules burst in twelve days it firm crust on the sixteenth day and when the crust separate in three weeks the depressed scars are left behind.

“I enjoined those who have not taken vaccine to go and do so before it turn into NIN and PVC exercise.”
