Karius had been training with Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead of the start of the 2020/21 season. However, he was excluded from Liverpool’s matchday squads for their Premier League games against Leeds and Chelsea.
He was also left out of the 7-2 win at Lincoln in the Carabao Cup on Thursday, with 21-year-old goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher named on the bench.
The Premier League champions have also confirmed goalkeeper Kamil Grabara has joined Danish side AGF Aarhus on a season-long loan.
