The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has honoured a 98-year-old retired Warrant Officer, Ex-WO Echenim Emmanuel Ewemiwe, during a special visit to Ute-Erumu, near Agbor, in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, to celebrate his 98th birthday.

The delegation, led by the Chairman of the Board, Major General J.E. Osifo, included Navy Commodore Galadima Ciroma, Director of Navy Pensions; Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed; and Captain Robertson Akpojovwo, Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Delta State.

The visit was organised as a special gesture to celebrate the veteran’s remarkable 98-year milestone and demonstrate the Board’s recognition of his years of dedicated service and sacrifice to the nation.

The birthday celebration featured colourful cultural displays, traditional dances and a gathering of family members, friends and well-wishers, who came together to celebrate the veteran’s life, service and enduring legacy.

Speaking at the occasion, Major General Osifo acknowledged the invaluable contributions and sacrifices of military veterans across the country. He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to prioritising their welfare, dignity and well-being, noting that the needs of retired military personnel remain a key responsibility of the institution.

The event also attracted the presence of the traditional ruler, the Aruwe of Ute-Erumu, members of the clergy and other prominent community leaders, who joined in celebrating the distinguished veteran.

In his vote of thanks, the family’s representative, Ex-MWO Chuks Echenim, expressed profound appreciation to the Chairman and his delegation for travelling to Delta State to celebrate with their father. He described the visit as a demonstration of honour, respect and recognition that would remain deeply cherished by the family.

The visit underscores the Military Pensions Board’s commitment to recognising the sacrifices of military veterans, celebrating their contributions to national development and upholding their dignity and honour. It also reinforces the Board’s resolve to maintain a strong bond with retired military personnel, extending its care and recognition beyond the administration of pension entitlements.
