Nigeria Army dismisses rumour of Extortion of Money From Motorists
The Nigeria Army had dismissed rumour spreading around, showing some of his men in a video clip receiving bribe from motorists.
According to the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig.Gen. M.M Yerima, who said, there has been a trending video showing men of the Nigeria Army demanding an illegal fee of One Thousand Naira(#1000 )from motorists applying the Benin Agbor express way.
He stated that the contents of the video was manipulated and misrepresentation of facts, as well as a calculated attempt to tarnish, and smite the reputation of the Nigeria Army.
Speaking further, he said there was a slight protest that happened on the 17th of Feb. at about 10pm when some night travellers insisted that the road is a Federal road, and not under the jurisdiction of the state government, therefore it should not be closed. This later resulted in a pandemonium, but was quickly brought under control professionally by men of the Military.
He therefore reassured the citizens that the Nigeria Army remains a professional outfit that respects the fundamental human right of every citizen, and also in line with the best global practices, saying people should disregard the rumour.
