Nigerians are currently facing hardship of their live across the country as price of commodities keep soaring in the market shelf with no corresponding increased in wages.
As the Muslim prepared to celebrate the Id El-Kabir festival,many Nigerians has call on President Mohammadu Buhari to as matter of urgency set up committee that will take charge of prices control measures in the country.
A cross section of people’s who spoke with the Century newspaper at Masaka market in karu of nassaraw state a suburb town closer to Abuja say,”the price of good and services in the country is increasing overwhelming especially in the transport sector as the providers of service and markets seller increased price discrimately without minding the effect on the ordinary people who don’t even have the resources to sometime purchase this good and service.
Mr Ogbo Slyvster is a public servant who live in Nyanya a suburb of Abuja,he claimed,”it is over two years now since the minimum wage was approved by the Federal government and uptill now,many workers are yet to be paid the new wages even those in the private sectors are not paid the the increments but the cost of living is skyrocketing every day without the government intervention.
As for Mallam Salihu maikasuwa,he felt the situation is getting out of control as people just take advantage of small changes in the system to increase their prices.Both men urged the government to put in measures that will checkmate the sharp practice of market forces as most sellers do that to ripped more gains
In Masaka Ram market as of Monday,an average goat was selling for for about eighty thousand Naira compared to fifty thousand the previous week,a basket of tomato is about seven thousand Naira compared to four thousand and mama pride rice is selling at thirty two-five thousands Naira compared to thirty thousand naira.
Most of the Muslim faithfuls who spoke on the condition of anonymity claimed ,they are skipping the Salah rams because they cannot afford such a price ,however many buyers were seen buying even at the high price despite the cost of the Rams.
In Dei-Dei Market,another goat market in the suburb of the federal capital,the story was not different as the cost of all the samples commodities were up by 50 percent.
Although,they were mush turn out of people in the market but the sellers are complained of low patronage due to the economy stiffed economic situations Nigerians are going through.
In transportation,the Century gathered, many people were unable to travel as result of the incessant security situation in the country which might have kept some people at home because of fears of the unknown across the road.but at Jabi Park in Utako on Monday morning,it was busy a hub for some commuters as many were at the park as early Six thirty A.M to book tickets for their journey.
