PCRC National Chairman Calls for Peace, Unity as Nigeria Marks 66th Independence Anniversary
The National Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, has called on Nigerians to promote peace, unity, tolerance and responsible citizenship as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Olaniyan, in an Independence Day address to Nigerians and PCRC members nationwide, urged citizens to reject violence, criminality, hate and other actions capable of threatening peace and security in their communities.
He said the anniversary provided an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey since independence, the sacrifices of its founding fathers and the collective responsibility of citizens to build a peaceful, secure and prosperous nation.
The PCRC chairman reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to strengthening relations between the Nigeria Police Force and the communities they serve, stressing that effective policing depends on trust, cooperation, mutual respect and meaningful engagement.

He also highlighted the PCRC Safe School Programme, saying the committee would continue to support initiatives aimed at protecting children, creating safe learning environments and strengthening collaboration among schools, communities and security agencies.
Olaniyan commended police officers and other security personnel for their sacrifices and dedication to protecting the country, assuring that the PCRC would continue to support constructive police-community partnerships aimed at improving public safety and confidence.
He further urged PCRC members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to remain disciplined, united and committed to the ideals of the committee, while demonstrating integrity, compassion, service and respect for the law.
The PCRC chairman said the responsibility for building the Nigeria citizens desire should not be left to government alone, urging every Nigerian to play a role in the development and security of the country.
He wished Nigerians a peaceful Independence Day and prayed for the protection of security personnel, children and families, as well as wisdom for leaders at all levels.
