Barely 48 hours following the unfortunate incident at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS), Kuru, the Inspector General of Police, Nigeria Police Force, Tunji Disu, has assured the security of the country cannot be compromised.
The IG made this known on Thursday when he paid condolence to the management and staff of NIPPS over the demise of three security personnel who lost their lives as a result of unprovoked attack by gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Represented by the DIG Isyaku Mohammed in charge of Training and Development Nigeria Police Force, who doubled as the DIG coordinating the North-Central zone, confirmed that the IGP sent him personally to come commiserate and identify with the Institute and let the Institute know that they are not alone in this time of grief.
“The IGP is with them, the Nigeria Police Force is with them, and to assure everybody in this compound that the police are doing everything possible to ensure that the environment is safe for them to conduct their academic exercises and continue their research”, Mohammed noted.

The DIG who commended personnel for curtailing the attack from escalation, revealed
they are still reviewing the situation and also going to reinforce the compound.
“Were going to revive the entire security setting of Plateau. We are going to have an outpost in the Institute which will be populated with policemen and also have a patrol bike that will enable proper security at the compound”, the DIG promised.
The Director General of NIPPS, Prof. Ayo Omotayo said prior to the attack the gunmen pasted notices that they needed the Institute to give them one million dollars and ₦50 million.
“We didn’t do it. They said they were going to come, and they actually came. But they met us solid.Unfortunately, we lost three security personnel”, Omotayo stated.
He further explained this was the first time the Institute came across such horrible experience since about 48 years of existence.
“The security agencies are investigating. They are interrogating. They have made a few arrests, and I’m sure we are going to get to the bottom of why and how they decided to attack.
“We are going on with our studies. Nothing has changed. Participants are attending their classes. They just ended the French class now. So we call these things perturbations.
“Those who are charged with security believe that it is part of the insecurity in the country, and then we are reassured. Visits like this are also very reassuring”, NIPPS DG mentioned.
The monitor General of Course 48 of 2026 Students of the Institute Colonel Okechukwu Azike said they were reassured and comforted, particularly the promised of establishment of the security post in the institute vicinity.
