Soroptimist International, Asaba Marks Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Women

It was a joyful moment for widows and women in Asaba as they joined their contemporaries all over the world to celebrate the Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Women.

The event which drew members of the Catholic Women Organization, was celebrated at the Labour House, Asaba on Sunday

Speaking at the occasion, the President of Soroptimist International, Asaba, Mrs. Stella Marris Ijeh enlightened the women on how to be sensitive to violence during altercation or misunderstanding with their spouses and other people.

Speaking further, she said this year marks the thirty years (30 yrs)anniversary of the sixteen days activism against gender based violence, adding that women should support one another to win the fight against gender based violence.

Mrs. Stella Marris Ijeh also, explained that the orange dress code of the organization signifies hope, saying that victims of gender violence should not be depressed but hopeful as the future is still bright for them.

She however advises the women to speak out or report to Soroptimist International anytime they are being violated by anybody.

The theme of the event is Orange The World, End Violence Against Women Now.
