By Amos Odhe
The Leader and chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Program , ex- agitators ( third phase) , Tonye Bobo, said the group convened a meeting last week end in Yenagoa to not only brainstorm on thorny issues on Niger Delta , but to sensitize the third phase members to key into the proposed cooperatives the Interim Administrator of Presidential Amnesty Program, (PAP ) Col Millard Dixon Dikio (rtd) has initiated for them.
According to him, Col Dikio means well for the future of Niger Delta youths and with the cooperatives the ex- agitators ( third phase) would be empowered beyond the sixty – five thousand naira monthly stipends , adding that with the cooperatives members would become self – reliant and become employers of labour.” We assembled ourselves to key into his vision, and preach peace for the development of the region”
He said they also discussed major strategies for an enduring peace in the Niger Delta, hence, they intend to the preach the message to International Oil Companies ( IOCs ) and other stakeholders to come and invest in the Niger Delta region without fear of molestation and intimidation to their investments and personnel.
” Gone are the days when protest and roadblocking were applied, but we are advocates, delegates for dialogue and peaceful resolution to attract investors and developments to the region “
Continuing , he said despite provocative statements from certain quarters , the third phase is beckoning on everybody to embrace peace, as the next phase they are now is to use intellectual as against protest and other tendencies that have hitherto tagged the region in negative light to outsiders.
On what was behind the peaceful and successful deliberation of ex – agitators ( 3rd phase) drawn from Delta, Edo, Rivers and Ondo without rancour , he said based on mandate from the Interim Administrator who said they need to work in synergy with security , each member had to comport themselves with sense of decorum.
” As a vision carrier of the 3rd phase, l have passed the message of peace, security unity , dialogue as panacea to development of the Niger Delta region”
