WORKSHOP: DG NILDS DECLARES 3-DAY TRAINING OPEN FOR LEGISLATIVE DRAFTERS.
… RAISES GERMANE CONCERN OVER MORE BOUNCEBACKS OF BILLS VIS-A-VIS SUCCESSFUL ONE.

The Director General National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies,NILDS, National Assembly, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman has blamed the drawbacks of bills that failed Presidential accents on the flaws in drafting technicalities.
Professor Sulaiman stated this in his opening remarks to declare open a 3-day Training Workshop on Legislative Drafting and Research for Legal Officials of State Houses of Assembly and State Ministries of Justices in Nigeria holding at NILDS Permanent Site, Piwoyi, Abuja.
He challenged the participants to ask germane and fundamental questions to address the lacuna in Legislative Drafting as they will be drilled in drafting financial and penal legislation as well as the use of library Services for research.



While intimating the Legislative Drafters on the ingredients of good drafting which is anchored on sequential processes and procedures, he said they must be able to oil their skills to transform a legislator’s broadly defined policy objectives into clear and concise statutory language that accomplishes desired goals.
The Director General, who disclosed that NILDS has emplaced packages for specialised trainings for drafters including Masters and Ph.D Programmes said bill drafting must reflect the sponsor’s objectives, the problem that the sponsor seeks to address, the current situation, issues to be impacted by the bill and the effective date for the bill.
The Acting Director Training and International Cooperation, DTIC- NILDS, Joke Akinsanmi had earlier set the tone for the Workshop and appreciated the Director General’s transformational leadership style that has put the Institute on the regional map of excellence as a capacity building hub.
The Director Legal Services Kano State, Ministry of Works, and Housing Mustapha Imam who is a mentee of the Director General and Barrister Titilayo of the Ministry of Justice Ekiti State as well as their Co- participants from Lagos, Ogun, and other states gave kudos to the DG NILDS for transforming the Institute into World Class Status.
A statement sighed by the Media Adviser To DG NILDS, Mohammad Abdulkadiri, ANIPR said the Training Workshop which has arrays of high calibre resource persons taking them through the principles of effective Legal Writing,Communication Skills in drafting and concept of Special purpose vehicles, its meaning, types and features will end on Thursday.
