Nigerian Navy Components Of OPFY Achieves Major Feats In Counter Terrorism, Insurgency Operations
The Nigerian Navy has consistently demonstrated operational effectiveness in supporting internal security operations across various joint theatres, achieving notable successes against terrorists and violent extremist groups.
Navy Captain AA Folorunsho, Director Naval Information, in a statement on Wednesday, disclosed that in a series of coordinated operations under Operation FASAN YAMMA in the North West region, Nigerian Navy troops executed multiple successful engagements against violent extremist elements, resulting in the rescue of victims and neutralisation of Violent Extremist Insurgents (VEIs).

“On 18 April 2026, troops deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ibira responded swiftly to distress calls on hearing gunshots along the Doka–Ibira axis.
“Upon rapid mobilisation to the scene, troops made contact with VEIs who opened fire. A decisive counter-fire forced the attackers to retreat, leaving their victims behind.
“Five victims were rescued from the scene. Four of them sustained different levels of gunshot wounds and were promptly taken to the General Hospital in Idon for treatment, while one victim sadly succumbed to injuries.
“The victims’ vehicle was recovered successfully, and exploitation of the area to track the fleeing extremists.
“In a related operation on 20 April 2026, troops of 2 National Mission Force Brigade, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a coordinated ambush at Anguwan Haske.
“The operation resulted in the neutralisation of one VEI and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle. Own troops recorded no casualties and returned safely to base.

“Additionally, troops deployed at FOB Dokan Karji responded to a distress call from Kushere Village, where VEIs had abducted civilians. The naval personnel swiftly mobilised and engaged the criminals in a gunfight, overpowering them and forcing their withdrawal.
“During the operation, three kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unharmed.
“These operations underscore the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering contribution to Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency (CTCOIN) efforts aimed at combating terrorism and other forms of violent extremism threatening the peace and stability of the country.
“The Nigerian Navy is committed to deploying assets to support national security objectives and to sustain aggressive operations against VEIs to ensure a safe and secure environment. Members of the public are encouraged to continue providing credible information to security agencies to enhance ongoing operations across joint theatres nationwide.
