American Senate Confirms Nigerian As Deputy Treasury Secretary

The US Senate has confirmed a Nigerian, Adewale Wally Adeyemo as the Nations first black Deputy Secretary of the Treasury.

The 39yr old was confirmed by a voice vote on Thursday, March 25.

Wally is everything the Treasury Department needs right now, Yellen said after his confirmation, “I believe he will handle his mission like he’s handled everything else during his carrier with integrity, and excellence”.

Adeyemo, born in Ibadan, Oyo State has served in various capacities under President Obama, including several senior management positions at the treasury department.

He has also served as the Deputy National Security Adviser for International Economics, and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council under Obama, and was also the first President of the Obama Foundation.

The Yale alum will serve as number 2 under Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen.
