PORT HARCOURT – RIVERS state has been buzzing with stakeholders expressing scorn and doubt over sincerity of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu’s reported ban on some activities of much castigated Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) and other tactical units of the Nigerian Police.

The flood of reactions buzzed more on the social media space among residents in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, where SARS is most times on the news for wrongs reasons.

Public institutions accountability advocate, Ken Henshaw of We The People asked on the development, “Is this the first time SARS is being banned? We are not yet serious.?”

Emmanuel Dada, social media commentator said, “They were banned by the IGP in 2017 and in 2018. When, how did they reappear to be banned again by the IGP this 2020? The truth is yet to be told.

Ekop Joseph said, “They’re trying to play with our intelligence”, just as Henry Alfed felt it’s, “Just a strategy to divert attention while they restrategize for more onslaught.”

Tamunotonye Emmanuel said, “Were they completely banned or for routine patrols? For me they’re not banned anything. The problem is still there. Hope you’ve read the requirements for applying to be a FSARS. Numbers 4, 7 11 and 17 Will shock you.”

Daniel Solomon, however cautioned, “Now that FSARS have been banned, can we at least be responsible citizens”

Gladys Nweke, a journalist said, “It’s scam. This was how they rebranded SARS to FSARS in 2017 when Nigerians were subjected to same brutality, torture and harassment.

“Since then SARS has killed more youths than before. I think only disbandment and dismantling of SARS will be acceptable.”
