Bauchi-Gombe Road Has Now become death zone, Says Bauchi NUJ Chairman.

Bauchi State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Umar Sa’idu has called on the federal government to urgently look at the possibilities of reconstructing the much-awaited Bauchi-Gombe highway.

He described the highway as death zone , referencing the number of fatal crashes that have led to deaths and life changing injuries on the road.

Almost 15 kilometers of the portion of the Road has now become a death zone engulfing innocent lives on daily basis.

The NUJ chairman has made this called on Friday while speaking at the 2022 World Bicycle Day rally held at the NUJ state annex headquarters.

kilometers-stretched road has completely become deplorable to the extent that motorists and other road users pass through untold hardship of fatal injuries and in some cases lost of lives and properties.

The Chairman lamented,
and voiced out his grievances on how the bad portion of the roads remain uneasy to travel.

He went ahead and made his submission glaringly and clear for all the relevant stakeholders to come to the aid of this bad portion of the road so as to save lives, properties and boast economic development,no economic development without good roads,the statement added.

In the addition to this, NUJ chair said that the motorists usually had experience head collision as a result of night traveling which directly or directly lead to the lost of lives and damaged property as mentioned earlier.

According to the NUJ chairman, commercial vehicles plying the road are the worst affected as they have to change tyres and other spare parts regularly, a situation he said was responsible for increasing transportation. Though fuel scarcity is another force driving the increase, he noted.

He therefore, called on the federal government through the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to immediately intervene in fixing the road. In addition, he advice to all commuters to take precaution while plying the road and followed all the necessary road rules and traffic regulations.

On the World Bicycle Day, Sa’idu said that its importance cannot be over-emphasized considering that it is the cheapest means of transportation anywhere in the world, apart from making people healthier interms of improving their physical fitness, metabolic process and coagulation

He express much and deeper delights on how the journalists in the state to get their personal moving bicycles in order to join the league of riders.The statement concluded as saying.

commended the Federal Roaf Safety Corps (FRSC) for contributing to reducing accidents on major roads, promising to partner will all the relevant Accident preventing agencies and particularly road safety Corp and her sister agency to promote safety on the roads to secure lives and properties more effectively and efficiently.
