Closing Ceremony Of 2nd African Military Games 2024, Gen. Musa Applauds Team Nigeria For Clinching 234 Medals

Team Nigeria Armed Forces clinched 231 medals, in the last concluded Africa Military Games 2024 at the final day. They won 114 Gold, 65 Silver and 55 Bronze.

Algeria came second with 96 medals. 64 Gold, 22 Sliver and 22 Bronze.

Kenya third position with 50 medals, 21Gold 17 Silver, and 12 Bronze.

Then, with others on the table.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa in his remarks, applauded Team Nigeria, and other participants, said the second edition of the African Military Games 2024 is a way of bringing peace and unity within the African Nations.

CDS disclosed this while delivering his closing remarks. He said “the Games remind us of the collective strength of Africa. “When we come together in a world facing diverse security challenges, it is crucial that we as military forces continue to find innovative ways to foster cooperation and mutual understanding.”

General Musa called on the National Sports Commission to make sure sports is restored in Nigeria that they can compete effectively in Africa, that there were no casualties recorded during the auspecious event. CDS Congratulated all the Teams that participated in the Event. Medals and trophies represent the pinnacle of achievement, he emphasize that in these games, irrespective of ranking or position, that all team is a winner. He applauded every everyone that participated, whether on the field, track or court.

General Musa continued, “Each of you, by donning the colors of your nation, has upheld the values of honor, resilience and unity, to the victors, I say congratulations. And to those who may not have won medals, know that your participation has enriched this event and reinforce the spirit of the Games.

“I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to the organizing committee, volunteers and all personnel who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the success this event.
Your meticulous planning and execution have not only brought pride to Nigeria, but also to the continent as a whole.

“As we draw the curtain on this memorial occasion, let us carry forward the lessons of unity and friendship that these games have impacted. May we continue to work together as a collective force for a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.”

The president of Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), Maj.-Gen. Abdullahi Maikano in his remarks, said “the camaraderie and discipline that has flourished during these games is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we stand together.

“May these African Games inspire us to combine fostering peace, cooperation and mutual respect among our nation. That reminds me of the adage that says, united we stand, divided we fall. Together we have celebrated our strength of our military values, our shared commitment of Greater Africa with brighter futures.

“We have witnessed extraordinary displays of skills, determination and sportsmanship showcasing the very base of the continent of Africa. These games have not only been platform for competition, but also a celebration of shared values of unity. We have seen athletes from diverse transcending borders differences, unity by common purpose to honor our nations and the ideals we stand for and we stand by. We the African Armed Forces.

“Each event was not just a contest of strength and skills, but a testimony of your hard work, discipline, unwavering spirits and cooperation. You have represented your countries with pride and achievement. This will no doubt resonate far beyond this game and far beyond this closing ceremony.”

The chairman of the organizing Committee, Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis shows his warmest gratitude and appreciation to everyone who represented their verious countries, he wished them a safe journey mercies back home .

He said “over the past several days, the National Stadium in Abuja has been a hub of camaraderie, excellence and sportsmanship.
Under the theme. Enhancing Military Cooperation in Africa through Sports”, we have witnessed a powerful demonstration of how sports can bridge boundaries, foster friendship and strengthening bonds among the Armed Forces of Africa”.

The personalities that attended the closing ceremony were, Vice President Kashim Shettima,
Former COAS, Ambassador Lt General Tukur Buratai (Rtd), Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya (Rtd), Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, OSMA founding Father, Major General Ishola Williams (rtd), Borno State Governor Zulum amongst others.
