Community Policing: STF Trained 165 Vigilante On Intelligence Gathering In Plateau

About 165 members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau state have received training from the Special Task Force under the code name Operation Safe Haven on community watch and information gathering.
Major General Ibrahim Ali, the commander of Operation Safe Haven, during the official passing out event of civilian joint Task force in Riyom Township Stadium stated that community security demands ongoing cooperation and support from the populace.
He asserted that the peace and security of the communities depend on prompt information sharing with the security forces.
The STF Commander, who was represented by DCP Mohammad Rabiu, Deputy Commander of Operation Safe Haven, reminded the trainees of their pledge of allegiance and urged them to be more impartial and diligent in discharging their responsibilities.
The Commander Sector 6, Colonel Hassan Gwani, revealed that the trainees came from diverse community that cut across religious and ethnic background.
According to him, “the trained vigilantes are to engage with the security forces in monitoring activities of criminal elements and reporting accordingly.”
The Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area, Hon. Mafeng Gwalson, and the Member Representing Riyom Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Dantong, shower accolades on Operation Safe Haven for kick starting the process of securing the Plateau villages.
The duo made reference to the improvement in the state’s security situation as a result of the new approach adopted by Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali, commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN.
The Atah Aten of Ganawuri, His Royal Majesty, Da Yakubu Chaimang, assured the troops of Operation Safe Haven the continued support of the traditional institution and the people of Riyom.
He voiced confidence in the troops’ ability to protect the populace if provided with the required assistance.
The speakers stressed the significance of security patrols, vigilance and ongoing community cooperation in stemming the tide of insecurity on the plateau.
Highlights of the occasion were the oath-taking ceremony conducted by Chief Magistrate of Riyom Local Government Justice Noknaan Drenkat and the distribution of writing materials to primary school students.
