CP Confirms Bomb Explosion, That killed Two In Imo State

Imo State Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Boose has confirmed bomb explosion in Imo State that killed two people suspected to be scavengers.
Speaking with Journalists at the Command Headquarters Owerri, Imo State, he revealed that explosion occured on
Thursday evening, 9:15pm, at a large drainage channel, No. 1 Old Nekede Road, opposite Lakeside Hotel, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to him two dead were suspected scrap metal scavengers not bombers which includes
Hyginus Akalonu 32, of Umulumu, Ehime Mbano LGA, Imo State and
Victor Egwu, 22, of Agba, Ishielu LGA, Ebonyi State.
He further stated that they were inside the drainage channel when the explosion happened and both sustained severe burns and died at FUTO Teaching Hospital, Owerri.
Boose highlighted that the situation is Still under investigation, EOD Unit is checking if it was an IED, trapped gas, or other hazardous material.
CP Bosso reiterated that
Investigation has been launched and the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit has commenced full and comprehensive investigation to determine the cause and circumstances that led to the explosion and
Scene secured Police cordoned off the area, EOD Unit swept it, and the area has since been declared safe
He gave assurance that the Command is fully on top of the situation and there is no cause for panic, and therefore
urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious objects or activities to police or emergency lines.
